Sometimes depression can be mild and an individual will only experience a few symptoms that last just a few days. Substance abuse is a dangerous illness that affects millions of individuals in the United States. Addiction affects people who are addicted as well as their loved ones and friends. If you or someone you love struggles with substance abuse, please know that treatment can help.
Diagnosing an addiction requires a specific skill-set and is best done by a Licensed Mental Health/Medical professional. We utilize the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which defines the criteria of addiction. An addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Substance use disorder is expressed by an inability to consistently abstain from using a drug or drinking alcohol. People with addictions develop impairment with regard to behavioral control. Often, they succumb to cravings and prioritize getting high or intoxicated over interpersonal relationships, work and other activities. Consistent with other chronic diseases, addiction often involves cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or dedicated engagement in recovery activities, addiction can become disabling and lead to severe impairment.
Driver’s-License Related
Persons cited for a DUI/DWI traffic offense or have had their driver’s licenses suspended due to a substance abuse infraction must satisfy the assessment and therapy requirements for the state of Florida prior to reinstatement. We can help with this process. We will work closely with you and/or your attorney to ensure that you are compliant with the mandated psychosocial evaluations and therapy sessions.
Approach to Therapy
Our approach begins with a therapy environment that is open, safe and non-judgmental. We will complete a screening and possibly a bio-psycho-social assessment. Consistent with the results we will tailor therapy suited to your individual needs. According to research, approximately two-thirds of individuals cited for a DUI or a DWI often assess as Low or Medium Risk individuals. Typically, Low and Medium risk individuals are eligible for a Short Term therapy treatment. Short Term therapy sessions are less expensive and can be done via our HIPPA compliant secure Telehealth platform for your convenience.
A lesser percentage of individuals will assess more severe and require therapy and interventions consistent with their assessment. We work with individuals to ensure that therapy is tailored to help them on their path to recovery. Please peruse our website, we believe that we could be a good fit. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us for a free consultation.
